Get ready to pedal with purpose this Halloween! Join us for the **Spooky Spokes Charity Bike Ride**, a thrilling event designed to raise awareness and funds for dementia research. Dress up in your most creative Halloween costumes and hit the road with fellow riders in support of a cause that touches many lives.
This year I chose to raise money for Associate for Frontotemporal Degenration. The reason I chose this specific cause is for my father-in-law. He was recently diagnosed with this rare form of dementia.
Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing research, providing support, and raising awareness for frontotemporal degeneration (FTD). FTD is a group of disorders characterized by progressive damage to the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, leading to significant changes in behavior, personality, and language.
Their Mission:
-
Funding Research: AFTD is committed to funding and supporting cutting-edge research aimed at understanding the causes of FTD, improving diagnostic methods, and developing effective treatments and therapies. Our goal is to accelerate breakthroughs that will lead to better outcomes for those affected by FTD.
-
Supporting Families: We offer a range of services to support individuals and families coping with FTD. Our resources include educational materials, support groups, counseling services, and caregiving advice to help families navigate the challenges of living with FTD.
-
Raising Awareness: Through public awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and community outreach, we strive to increase understanding of FTD. By fostering greater awareness, we aim to reduce stigma and ensure that those affected receive the support they need.
-
Advocacy: We advocate for policies that promote better care, research funding, and resources for those impacted by FTD. By working with policymakers and healthcare professionals, we aim to drive systemic changes that benefit the FTD community.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by frontotemporal degeneration.
